During pre 1866 Joseph Wright was owned by the slave owner Isaac Wright of Bladen County who owned more than 300 slaves in 1860. Joseph was born sometime around 1839. In 1870 I found him living in the Colly township of Bladen County in an area that presently includes the river communities of Lagoon and the Sugar Loaf. At that time he was living with his wife Jane who was born sometime around 1842 and two of his children Grant and Nancy Wright. I found Joseph and his wife Jane still living in the Colly township of Bladen County in 1880 with an addition of four more children. The children were named Kitty Ann, Sena or Sella Ann, Winsor and Annette who I think is the mother of Raymond, Rome and Emerson Martin of Elizabethtown NC. Joseph and Jane must have died sometime between 1890 and 1900. They could not be found in 1900 and their son Empie who was born in 1890 was found living with his older brother Grant and family.
